Amboseli National Park

Set in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya’s most iconic safari destinations. The park is known for its large elephant herds, open savannah plains, seasonal wetlands and spectacular views of Africa’s highest free-standing mountain. Its diverse habitats also support lions, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and more than 400 recorded bird species.

Amboseli offers some of Kenya’s most memorable wildlife encounters, particularly with elephants moving across the open plains beneath the snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. The park is also home to lion, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and numerous bird species, while its wetlands attract wildlife throughout the year.

The park’s landscape changes dramatically with the seasons. Vast grasslands give way to swamps and springs fed by underground water from Kilimanjaro, creating important habitats for elephants, hippos and waterbirds. Beyond the park, visits to Maasai communities provide an opportunity to experience traditional culture and learn about life around Amboseli.

Amboseli can be visited throughout the year, but the dry seasons from June to October and January to February are generally ideal for wildlife viewing. During these months, animals gather around the park’s permanent water sources and vegetation is less dense.

The March to May long rains and November to December short rains transform the landscape, bringing fresh vegetation and excellent conditions for birdwatching. Rain can make some roads challenging, but the greener scenery can offer a different perspective of Amboseli.

Amboseli offers a variety of safari experiences, from wildlife viewing across the open plains to enjoying stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Some of the popular activities include:
