Diani Beach, Kenya

Diani Beach is one of Kenya’s most popular coastal destinations, stretching along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean south of Mombasa. Its powder-white sands, turquoise waters and palm-fringed coastline create a beautiful setting for a relaxing beach holiday, while nearby forests, wildlife reserves and Swahili communities offer plenty to discover.

Diani combines a beautiful tropical coastline with a variety of experiences. The beach itself is ideal for swimming, sunbathing and water sports, while the surrounding reefs provide opportunities to discover colourful marine life. The area also offers a good choice of beachfront resorts, restaurants and activities for different types of travellers.

There is plenty to explore beyond the beach. Colobus Conservation offers an insight into local wildlife and conservation, while nearby Shimba Hills National Reserve provides opportunities to see elephants, buffalo, giraffes and the rare sable antelope. The rich Swahili heritage of the south coast adds another layer to a visit, from traditional cuisine to coastal traditions and communities.

Diani is a year-round destination, although the drier months from June to October and January to February generally offer sunny weather and good conditions for beach activities and excursions.

The March to May long rains and November to December short rains bring occasional showers, but the coast remains warm and tropical. These periods can also bring greener scenery and quieter conditions around the destination.

Diani offers a wide range of experiences, from relaxing beside the Indian Ocean to exploring coastal wildlife, marine life and the surrounding countryside.
